It all began when my Mirracycle came loose and fell off in the middle of the street. I was going to come to a stop, dismount, and walk back to pick it up.
Things didn’t quite turn out as planned.
When the clipless bike shoe, shown below,

::
is separated from its cleat, that is the cleat remains in the pedal as shown below,

::
then it’s likely the wearer of said shoe experienced some “excitement” as the shoe and cleat were separating.
Bruise on the hip, and scrapes on the calf. Could have been worse!

::
And somehow the bike must have been upside down at some point, as there are scratches across the entire TOP of the handlebar:

::
But the stupid part is that my right foot was unclipped, so despite the failure of the shoe/cleat/pedal interface, falling down was entirely unnecessary.
In other news, happy 69th birthday Jerry!

I was fortunate to capture a few images demonstrating the dramatic storm clouds that are common in central Kansas in the summer. The first two are from early July, and the last one is from later in the month.
Larger versions over at Flickr.

The first two were taken north of McPherson.

This one was taken due west of Lindsborg; you can barely make out the water tower.

All images were processed as HDR images. HDR stands for high dynamic range, and essentially images are “stretched” so that the shadows show more detail than typical. More info is available in the article I wrote a while back: Misc HDR images.
Also, you can search the site for “HDR” and get links to all articles (with photos!) I’ve written on the subject. HDR search on All the Pages
I love fireworks so much I posted over 40 images to my 2011 fireworks set on Flickr. I usually post 3-5 images per blog posting, but today’s comes in with a baker’s dozen! That’s because I added a few that I had prepared last year but never posted due to more pressing personal concerns at the time.

We drove over to Kanopolis late on Saturday, taking the back roads all the way!
When we were done we grabbed a light supper at the Smoky Hill Trading Post, located on the south shore of the lake. Unlike the reconstituted crap they call potato salad that most places serve these days, the SHTP makes their own (very excellent!) potato salad and pasta salad. The beef brisket sandwich is definitely worth a return trip as well.
I took a few photos along the way and after we got to the lake. The full set is in the Summer Saturday set on Flickr.
Below are 3 of my favorites from the day:

Posted on Saturday, but the photos are from Friday! The first two are from my camera phone, and the last 3 were taken with my DSLR.

I rode my bike down to the old railroad bridge and took a few photos. More details, including a GPS map of my ride, are available on the DailyMile site. Here’s a direct link to the map. (I just noticed that chrome downloads the map, while IE (9) displays it … hmm. The map file will also open up in Google Earth.)

We hadn’t been down to Maxwell for a while, so we took a ride after work. Saw more turtles alongside the road than ever before! I fractalized this mud-crusted box turtle.
